Those last years the BPM Festival in Playa del Carmen (Mexico) grows to become one of the most famous winter festival. Alongside a number of Off-BPM parties emerged in Playa del Carmen and even more in Tulum.
The more low-key Tulum parties really become the new place to be for the hippie’s jetsetters. The vibes of those parties can be compared with a kind of « Burning Man on the beach ». Most of the best parties are word-of-mouth or even private, and some more advertised ones have made about them this year, especially the Day Zero party.

In Tulum, the place to be of the New Year’s week was Habitas, a mini private community festival for 100 guests during one week (mostly Burners). Eduardo Castillo, the event’s co-founder, said : “Habitas is a place of wonderment, and to accomplish this, we surprise our guests at every turn from the moment they arrive to the moment we bid farewell.”

Habitas also offers daily sunset sessions on the beach with new and emerging musical acts who becomes directly notorious in the are just by the word-of-mouth  –making it even more difficult that they open the event for family and friends just one day during the week-.

For the New Years Eve, two parties are competing the heading with both an amazing selection of the best deep house DJ’s : Maya Hearts (with Atish, Bedouin, Lum and many others) and the Tulum New Years Festival (Gusgus, Claptone, Lazarus and others). On the side, the Ahau’s hotel -well know but the Tulum Burners- proposed a nice New Year’s dinner following by a party on their beach for their friends and family, with music and performers.

During this very specific period starting after Christmas to the end of January, there is everyday some nice parties happening in Tulum.

The two parties who have especially marked this winter where the very prized Anthony Middelton’s legendary secret (or not-so-secret) Sacbe jungle party who take place in a picturesque temple in a small eco-friendly community just outside Playa del Carmen. Attracting like-minded people and some of the world’s biggest DJ’s who play for free to raise money for a charity. Sacbe aims to create an environment that fuse everything you liked about being a child, with everything you like about being a grown-up. Since its inception a few years ago, the Sacbe has bloomed into one of the world’s most unique and must attend parties.

Right after the Sacbe party, Day Zero Party by Crosstown Rebels taking place in the Cenote dos Ojos have been already described as one of the best party in the world. Day Zero blends traditional Mayan ceremonies, local performers, arts, the lush magic of the Mayan Riviera, top house and techno talent, and the support of Damian Lazarus’s Crosstown Rebels to guide attendees’ through 24 hours of cultural, musical and self exploration in the jungle. More than an party, Day Zero can definitely be classified as a 24 hours jungle festival.

Several other beautiful parties are held on the sacred beach of Tulum. The Burning Man camp Mayan Warrior has surprised everyone by bringing his art car on the beach of the Papaya Playa Project, led by Maceo Plex. Followed by an other Burning Man camp, White Ocean, who hosted a Blondish life show at Casa Malca.
